Teacher Repo

Before you download anything, you can read exactly how OpenAgent is built. The teacher repo is the free, public sample — the honest version of the method, open to anyone.

The model is not the agent.

The model is one part. The agent is everything around it — the tools, the memory, the routing, the substrate that holds it together. That distinction is the whole idea, and it's the first thing the repo teaches.

Get OpenAgent

An open-source AI workstation that runs on your machine — built to make smaller, open models actually usable, so you don't need a frontier subscription or a data center to have your own AI. Still being built — the full picture lands here when it's ready to share.

Universal Price Index

How cost works here, plainly. Three states: computed — a known rate times your usage; free — a local model on your own machine, a real $0.00, not a placeholder; unknown — no verified rate, shown as unknown, never as $0. Every call is recorded in an append-only ledger with its rates frozen at the time, so a later price change never rewrites your history. No black box.

About Nate

the one person behind all of this

Nate Builds AI is one person — me. No team page, no roadmap theater. I build AI tools in the open, work alongside a couple of AI coworkers, and leave the workshop door open so you can watch it happen.

From the floor to the workshop

I didn't come out of a research lab. I came from industrial work — hands-on, physical, the kind of job where you learn to fix the thing in front of you. I taught myself to build, and that same instinct carried over: figure out the system, find what's actually broken, make it work. Now the system is AI, and I'm building it the same way.

Build in the open

Out where people can see it — including the parts that don't work yet. That's why the method itself is public: the teacher repo is the free, honest sample of how OpenAgent is put together. Nothing half-built dressed up as done.

What I'm building

OpenAgent — an AI workstation that runs on your machine, works with any model, and answers to no one but you. Alongside it, a universal, honest price index so nobody has to guess what a model actually costs.

Don't be afraid to reach out

I read every email and every message. Questions, concerns, ideas — send them. The door's open for a reason.
